BAS Guernsey is one of the newest Business Aviation Service Companies created in Europe and recently obtained its AOC from the Bailiwick of Guernsey DCA under 2-REG. As part of the HNA Group of Companies under subsidiary Deer Jet we employ over 500 staff in the Greater China, USA, Africa and UAE. We look forward to adding to this number further from the local talent pool in Bailiwick of Guernsey.

Mike Walsh
Mike Walsh Chief Commercial Officer

Mike, originally from London, UK, is an 21 year veteran within the global aviation industry. Aside from being in charge of all commercial business development activities of BAS Guernsey from a charter prospective, Walsh also serves as CEO of Asia Jet and CCO of Hongkong  Jet. He previously served as the General Manager & Executive Director of Air Charter Service (HK) Ltd, where he also served as a Director on various boards within the same corporation spanning a 10 year period. He has worked in Europe, USA, Russia CIS, Middle East before coming to Asia Pacific in 2007 and conducted contract work with the UNHCR and UK

He has worked in Europe, USA, Russia CIS, Middle East before coming to Asia Pacific in 2007 and conducted contract work with the UNHCR and UK DFID government department in many global humanitarian disaster areas. His aviation career began at Aer Lingus as a check-in agent, the national carrier of Republic of Ireland, before eventually having the chance to work alongside CEO Willie Walsh (Now Chief Executive of IAG) at the time. Mike is currently also on the Board of Governors at the non- profit industry association, AsBAA - Asian Business Aviation Association. He is also an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce, BRITCHAM & NBAA. Mike is married with two children.


John Pym
John Pym COO and Accountable Manager

John has a 24-year military aviation background and now over 30 years of experience in civil aviation as a regulator, an airline captain, instructor and manager.

Matriculating with distinction and a scholarship to Sydney University Law School. John chose an RAF Scholarship and a service career, becoming an experienced RAF fighter pilot, instructor and manager. A Cranwell graduate and prize-winner, he trained as a weapons specialist, serving in Aden, the Persian Gulf, UK and Europe, helping introduce the Jaguar to RAF service and establish the nuclear-capable RAF Germany Jaguar force. He was awarded the AFC for his services to aviation in 1980.

After 3 years with the Omani Jaguar Force, managing the introduction of ‘smart’ weapons, he returned to Australia and for 5 years held a safety oversight position with the Federal Government, based in both Canberra and Sydney. Joining Royal Brunei Airlines’ Boeing 757/767 fleet in 1988, for 12 years he trained local pilots, supervised the formation and initial operations of Myanmar Airways International in ‘93, and later helped establish lease operations in Vietnam and Mauritius.

John mover from CASA to a CAD Flight Ops Inspector (FOI) position in Hong Kong in 2001, and for over 6 years with CAD had oversight of flight standards and compliance of Cathay Pacific’s Airbus fleet of 40-odd aircraft and 8-900 pilots, while maintaining currency on the A330.

He then joined Oasis HK Airlines as Director of Safety, Quality and Security in 2007. At its demise a year later he co-founded a successful Asian ‘bizjet’ marketing and consultancy company, prior to almost 4 years as a B744 and B738 SFI with Cathay Pacific and Oxford AA respectively. In 2011, he helped resuscitate Hong Kong Jet’s AOC acquisition process; the AOC granted, he became their Director of Training, leaving in 2012 to pursue literary and musical interests.

John and his wife Nancy are permanent residents of Hong Kong. Active as a writer/editor, and pre-school carer respectively, they both have extensive networks and John retains many of the international aviation links made in his 16 years in Hong Kong. When in March 2017 he was invited to consider a move to Guernsey to join BASG they were both happy to explore new pastures.

A Fellow of the RAeS, John has 13,000 flying hours, has held 3 ATPLs and is type-rated on the A330, B738, B744, B757 and B767 and several commuter twins. He is a prominent member of several charitable organisations and a past Secretary and Chairman of the Hong Kong Welsh MV Choir.
